FOTD: Office Makeup Look

By  |  14 Comments

Hi everyone! I’ve been busy attending job interviews recently, and even though it’s a rather tedious task, I’m actually enjoying it for a lot of reasons—one of which is how I find it as a creative outlet through my makeup. We all know how situations like those require wearing business attire and situationally appropriate makeup for the ladies, so I thought I’d make a post on the office makeup look I pull off!

I remember being required to take Personal Effectiveness (PERSEF) classes back in university. PERSEF classes are non-academic units programmed to prepare students for practical real-life situations, and prior to my graduating term, PERSEF tackled lessons regarding job applications. One of the tips that sparked my interest was how to apply office makeup. Although half of my mind was protesting how social convention limited creative expression, I realized office-appropriate makeup really was necessary when I encountered a number of ladies wearing over-the-top makeup to a job interview. How is your interviewer going to focus on the brilliant things you’re saying if he or she is too distracted by your dark smokey eye or your striking purple lip?

Anyway, I think the key to daily office makeup is facial feature enhancement and subtlety. Sure, bold lips are okay, but the overall look should be nothing too attention-grabbing to the extent that it will take the focus off of the work you’re doing (unless you work as a makeup artist, in that case go all out by all means LOL). It should also be quick and easy to do because you don’t want your makeup application time to hamper your productivity. In my case, I did something that I finished in 10-15 minutes, so I skipped out on the eyeliner, lower lash mascara, and nose contour. I’m really slow with putting on makeup, okay? 😆

Check out the office makeup look I made below!

Products I used for my Office Makeup Look

  • MAC Studio Fix Concealer in NW20 for my under-eye area and as an eyeshadow primer.
  • MAC Lightful Marine-Bright Formula Compact Foundation in NC40 for the whole face and neck.
  • MAC Magnetic Nude Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Magnetic Appeal to slightly contour my cheekbones, forehead, and jawline.
  • MAC Magnetic Nude Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Fairly Precious as a highlighter and blush in one.
  • Guerlain Météorites Perles Illuminating Powder in 02 Teint Beige for my finishing powder.
  • Burt’s Bees Lip Balm (not in photo) as my lip primer and moisturizer.
  • MAC Matte Lipstick in Nouvelle Vogue
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate
  • Urban Decay Naked Basics Eyeshadow Palette
  • MAC Prep + Prime Lash
  • Benefit They’re Real! Mascara
  • MAC Fix+ Spray as my setting and finishing spray.

Here’s the finished office makeup look! It’s very basic and minimal, perfect for a day at work or in school, but in my opinion the eyeshadow is really optional. I myself rarely wore eye makeup when I was still in college because of how I always lacked sleep. I do love how it gave my eyelids an illusion of being deep-set, though! Also, I kind of overdid the brows in the middle part because I was rushing… see what I meant before about how easy it was to mess up working with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade? Ugh better luck next time I guess HAHAHA.
P.S. Please don’t mind the family photos behind me LOL.

For my EOTD, I went with Foxy for the base, Faint for the middle to outer lid and the crease (with a heavier application on the outer V), W.O.S. for the middle to outer lid, and Venus for the inner V and the brow bone. I applied MAC Prep + Prime Lash on my upper lashes and let it set for 10 minutes before putting on Benefit They’re Real! Mascara.

Here’s a photo of the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette for your reference! It’s a really nice neutral matte eyeshadow palette—I bought this with going to the office in mind.

How about you lovelies, what’s your usual office makeup look and what are your thoughts on “makeup code” in the workplace? Do you tend to go for something subtle or more bold, or does it depend on your mood? Share your go-to products on the comment box below!

Thank you! The eyebrows weren’t good at all, though. I kind of overdid it. Oh well. 😆

Hi Michelle! Yeah, it’s definitely my favorite mascara. Benefit came out with a new one, though! It’s called the Roller Lash Mascara and they released it for one day only in MNL, but they’re releasing it permanently this coming March. You should go check it out! :)

Oh, and good luck on your new blog! I haven’t had the time to check on mine for months already and it’s becoming more difficult ever since I started work. :(
